Submitters have been patiently waiting for the results of the ENR California Best Projects 2013 judging, and I am now able to reveal most of the awards! I’m pleased to present this preview of the winners that will be profiled more in depth in the Dec. 2 issue of ENR California, and at the awards presentations in early December (more on that below).

This year we received well over 100 entries for projects located in California and Hawaii, so reviewing them was a massive task for the 11 California construction industry judges, who graciously donated hours of their time to read about each project. The judges really appreciated all the time and effort that submitters put in to their entry forms, and there were many outstanding projects this year. Unfortunately, we can only honor a fraction of the projects that are submitted each year, so if your project didn’t win this year, please be sure to submit next year!

The judging for our special safety award is still ongoing, so I will announce the winner at a later time. Also, our judges will select a Project of the Year – we’ll announce that winner in our Dec. 2nd issue.

This year, we are holding two separate banquets to make it more convenient for attendees who live throughout the state, so sure to mark your calendars to meet and congratulate all of the project teams. On Dec. 3, we will hold a breakfast awards ceremony at Hotel Nikko in San Francisco, where project teams in the northern half of California, as well as winners from our separately juried ENR Northwest Best Projects competition, will be honored. To register, visit http://www.construction.com/events/2013/bestprojects/san-francisco.asp .

On Dec. 5, we’ll celebrate the winning teams for projects located in the southern half of California, at the Marriott Long Beach, during a breakfast banquet. To register, visit http://www.construction.com/events/2013/bestprojects/long-beach.asp .

Also at the banquets, we will take the opportunity to honor the firms that were selected throughout the year as our Owner, Design Firm, Contractor and Specialty Contractor of the Year. Those were the San Francisco PUC, Arup, Swinerton and ACCO Engineered Systems. We’ll also recognize the Top 20 Under 40 winners that were published in the February 2013 issue of ENR California. Hope to see you there!
